Tub patch with water recovery
When it rains, the water that is not absorbed by the roots seeps into the underlying gravel layer and runs from there into the cistern. For irrigation, the drainage pipe is turned upwards.
The water fills the gravel layer and rises into the plant soil. As soon as the first dark spots appear on the surface, the drainage pipe is turned down again. The water that is not absorbed by the soil runs back into the cistern.
